Frequently Asked Questions

WE RECEIVE MANY QUESTIONS. THE ANSWERS ARE CONSISTENT.

Can I retrieve my document?

No.

Why can't I retrieve my document?

Retrieval is not part of the service. The service is filing. We file documents. We do not retrieve them. We understand this is unusual for a document management service. We consider it a clarification of scope, not a limitation.

What happens to my document after it's filed?

It is filed. We do not elaborate on what happens after filing because what happens after filing is that the document is filed. It remains filed. We do not delete documents. We do not lose documents. Documents are filed indefinitely.

What is my reference number for?

It is a record that your document was filed. You can use it to tell people your document has been filed and provide evidence of this fact. It cannot be used to retrieve the document.

Is this secure?

Your document is filed. We do not share filed documents. We do not use filed documents for any purpose. We file them. Security in the conventional sense implies someone might want access to your document. No one at Filed has any interest in your document. It is filed.

Why would I use this?

Some documents need to exist somewhere other than where they currently are. Some documents need to have been sent somewhere. Some documents need to be done with. Filed provides a destination. After filing, your document is no longer exclusively yours. It is filed. Some people find this meaningful. We have not investigated why.

Can I file the same document twice?

Yes. Each submission receives its own reference number. If you file the same document twice, you will have two reference numbers for the same document. Both are valid. The document is filed twice. We do not consider this redundant. We consider it thorough.

What is the gold-colored confirmation email?

The premium tier offers a confirmation email with gold-colored text. The text is the same as the standard confirmation. It says: "Your document has been filed. Reference number: [number]. Thank you." In gold.
